During this time when many of are temples are closed during the pandemic, the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist Temples of Canada and its temples across Canada are holding services and lectures online.
By visiting a temple’s livestream video page at the scheduled time, you are able to join service, chant and listen to dharma messages from your home. Check temple websites to confirm weekly livestream schedules, as services may not be streamed every Sunday.
Temples may also offer recordings of recent services or dharma talks, with many now posting new content on a weekly basis.
JSBTC Lecture Series
The JSBTC has organized a series of lectures relating to many of the issues confronting us today. The lectures are free and open to the public.
The event is free and open to everyone. It takes place live online on Saturday, April 17, at 11:00AM PT/2:00PM ET.
Rev. Robert Gubenco of the Calgary Buddhist Temple leads a live daily evening service and weekly Sunday service on Facebook Live. The evening services start at 8:00 pm PDT. The Sunday Services start at 9:00 am PDT. If you're not a member of the Calgary Buddhist Temple Facebook group, you will need to request to be added to the group before you'll be able to share in the service. You can also view past Sunday Services on YouTube including this very special appearance by Rev. Dr. Kenneth Tanaka.
Toronto Buddhist Church
Rev. Yoshimichi Ouchi of the Toronto Buddhist Church live streams a weekly Sunday Service on both Zoom and Facebook Live. You will need to register for both. Click on the icons for a registration link to either application.
Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta
Monthly Shotsuki services from the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta are streamed on the first Sunday of each month on YouTube. Also available are a series of ten short videos, "10 Things to do to cope with COVID-19. The videos were produced by Dr. Roland Ikuta (President of the BTSA) can be found on the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta Facebook page. Monthly podcasts titled "It is called A Buddhist Life" can be accessed wherever you can download podcasts or directly from theBTSA.com web page. The episodes cover various topics and how Buddhism can be incorporated into everyday life.
